Straight from the horses mouth......
We think we have the most amazing new facility at Whitfield but even the best can sometimes get it wrong! And if we've got it right, we'd be delighted to hear that too!

great meet today and lots of improvements. a couple of points though. the tannoy is weak and only faces in towards the paddock so you can't hear it on the course. the top road used today was difficult for non 4wd cars, very muddy, slippery and uneven in places. the lower road last time was better. dave. |

| very good day, must say parking for the public and owners by the winning post was much better than last year at the grafton meeting when it was reserved for sponsors and snobs. is this going to revert back at the next meetings? i had three runners and was very pleased with the organization and the going. one of my horses went through the wing, but i understand this will be looked at. well done and thank you for all your hard work. |

excellent meeting - well done to all concerned in completing a mammoth card on time. very good friendly atmosphere. only suggestion - would it be possible for the horse boxes to have a seperate entrance from the rest of the racegoers? |

a lovely course and a great venue for pointing, well done all concerned for all the hard work! made better for us by having a winner, but could easily have missed it, when our race was split, the runners of the two divs were put on the board, we were in div 2, but then some time later changed!! cannot hear the p a at the lorries, so how can we keep track? we can't keep asking for confirmation from decs clerks! thanks to mobile phones we got there just in time, however, it was fraught!!!!! |

a great addition to the point-to-point ranks; a proper course with plenty of character, unlike some of the other recent editions.
number board very clear, which is always a positive for me and easy to get around everywhere.
if i have a niggle it would be that some of the staff manning the crossing of the course were a little too "jobsworth" at times, eg shutting the gate immediately as the flag was raised, despite the horses starting on the far side, closing the middle of the course for safety reasons after an "incident", yet certain people who clearly weren't there in an official capacity were still let through and in general a little bit bolshie with the public. they also stopped a well known rider from exiting there after his horse had pulled up, which seemed a bit daft. i know they thankless task, but a smile wouldn't go amiss! the crossing area does need looking at to allow an exist distinctly separate exists for horses and the public, otherwise someone is going to get a kick.
apart from this, keep up the good work! |

what a great addition whitfield is proving to be. so many positives; a superbly well organised meet; kept to time with 30 min intervals, number board super efficient, commentator accurate and polished (where did he come from?) and volunteers all very friendly and amenable. noticeable improvements from last years first venture included a better lay out which made the number board more visible from the bookies, a better entry and exit route to and from the course, the apparent elimination of last years problems with the bend, and (i think) an extended track to ensure a true 3m race.
great to see a course respond so well to feedback and i have no doubt the fences next year will be designed to better cope with the kickings they got yesterday, which did suggest the fence shape or construction might need a bit of further investigation? on a positive note the run throughs on each fence were excellent and clearly much thought has gone into the design and management of this track. be warned, the word is out and next year is likekly to be even more popular, breakfast may need to be served!!!

a huge thank you to martin, andrew, debbie, tony and all the team at whitfield for providing us with such a great facility in the s midlands.
having helped run the smac meeting at tweseldown for the last few years, it is great to have our club meeting back in the area again. the atmosphere on sunday was just what a point to point should be and with 144 runners, we had a record day.
looking forward to the bicester meeting! |

wonderful day thanks. a couple of points. is the track the only means of entry/exit as i think that may cause problems with a big crowd. also, why were so many fences damaged. i have not seen such destruction in all my years racing. i don't ride but heard a couple of jockeys saying the bend after the start was very sharp and also the wings of the fences were not angled out enough. i hope to think of other things! dave. |
