Whitfield Racecourse
Set amidst rolling Northamptonshire countryside with excellent road links, Whitfield Racecourse is a superb new venue for Point to Point Racing. The newly constructed right-handed course curves and undulates around the landscaped lake, which provides water for the irrigation system.
A well defined racecouse standard railed 'chute' at the start leads runners onto rising ground approaching the first fence. With two long straights and well cambered bends, there are seven fences, four of which are jumped three times and three (including the new style open ditch) jumped twice.
Viewing is excellent, with the entire course visible from the concrete road.
Whitfield Racecourse is the new home for The Grafton Hunt Point to Point and fixtures in 2010 include The South Mldlands Area Club and Bicester with Whaddon Chase meetings.
Directions - Traffic from the south - M40 / Brackley will be diverted via Westbury. Please follow the signs - the right turn across the A43 to Whitfield village will be closed.
We look forward to seeing you at Whitfield Racecourse.
The History
Martin Clarke, the landowner at Whitfield, has long dreamed of having a course on his own land. The preparation had been underway for some 18 months under the guidance of Tony Howland, head groundsman at Cheltenham Racecourse.
Much of the work has been carried out by the father and son team of Roger and Andrew Clarke, who have built the fences at Whitfield, as they do at Kimble and Kingston Blount - two other courses in the South Midlands Area.
The first meeting at the exciting new Whitfield course was held on 17th May 2009 for The Grafton Hunt to much acclaim. Some slight modifications to the course and the paddock have been made since the first meeting.
Whitfield Racecourse is situated just off the A43 between Silverstone and Brackley with access from Whitfield village, which will be well signed.
